Aluzinc
is a flat steel product which is coated with an aluminium
zinc alloy on both sides using a continuous hot dipped process
similar to that used in the manufacture of galvanised sheets.
The coating which consists of 55% Aluminium, 43.4% Zinc and
1.6% Silicon, enables the steel to resist corrosion through
the joint action of the cathodic action of the zinc and the
surface screening effect of the aluminium. Aluzinc can be
used for pipe cladding in the petrochemical and enclosure
industries, as well as other cases which require protection
from harsh environments.
Zinc
When subjected to rough weather the
zinc in the coating acts like a galvanised coated steel by
sacrificial cathodic protection at all points where the bare
steel is exposed.
Aluminium
This contributes to corrosion resistance
by a screening action in that it is quickly rendered passive
by the formation of an insoluble layer of Aluminium Oxide.
